Adventure literature: adventure stories are opposite to the way that nonsense works, nonsense writers overturn the expectations of 19th century child readers (they would be expecting an explicit moral lesson) nonsense comes from an element of surprise. You can expect the protagonist to return home with his treasure, the good guys to beat the bad guys. There will be nothing surprising or original in this book: some readers are looking for something that is different and unexpected, others want something traditional that follows the formulaic elements. Individualistic hero: the wizard of oz and the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe have an adventure taking place, but the protagonist is surrounded by siblings and friends (a large group of allies) He says it is a mad notion" because he is acting alone, isolating himself from allies that could protect him, it is impulsive, he has no real plan in place. He wants to lead the battle and be the hero.
