Animal stories: unlike the other genres we have covered, the animal genre is almost exclusive to children"s literature. Though velvet is an expensive suit, it is close to what he would be wearing in nature (subtle, tasteful, natural) His clothing suggests that he is close to his animal identity: toad (the most anthropomorphic qualities) wears hideous", flashy outfits that mask his animal identity. P. 100 he wears goggles, a cap, an enormous overcoat, gloves. Everything toad does is to draw attention to the fact that he is a wealthy aristocrat: they live in houses, toad hall. He has a boathouse, a ballroom (the kind of house a wealthy aristocrat would inherit and use as a sign of wealth) If toad is too human, the weasels and stotes aren"t human enough (they don"t wear clothing, don"t have individual identities: mole and rat fall in the middle.
