Science fiction element very metaphorical to social issues. Defense of the idea that earth is interesting and we don"t rely on humans. Women are oppressed in the world outside of the west. Possibilities of feminism and freedom, tropes of space and privacy all come from the west. Vandana singh is at odds with western feminists. Singh takes up these tropes without apology, is more sympathetic. In the west we pride ourselves on technology. We are at the top of the food chain. If alien intelligence appears, perhaps we are not the supreme species. Interesting that she is in accounting, she hates money. She is sick of her life, her boyfriend, family, school. Maya one of the few witnesses of the appearance of the tetrahedron. Why is the tetrahedron not killing people or causing harm. If its dangerous then mayas choice is bad, this is a utopian story. Expansion of power, the people who touch it are freer.
