English 1022E Lecture Notes - Hungry Heart
Document Summary
A lengthy speech by a single person expressing his/her private thoughts: most often as a type of lyrics poetry. A single person, who is patently not the poet, utters the entire poem in a specific situation at a critical moment. We know of the speaker"s presence and what they say and do only from clues in the discourse of their speech (i. e. no external analysis) The main principle controlling the poet"s choice and organization of what the lyric speaker says is to reveal to the reader, in a way that enhances its interest, the speaker"s temperament and character. Written by victorian poet alfred tennyson in 1833.
