It looks like we"re heading into another spondee, but tennyson broke it: the break of the waves crashing on the rocks produces the same stress, but then he breaks the spondee. On thy cold gray stones, o sea: on thy cold" is an anapest (unstressed, unstressed, stressed) Through enjambment (striding over into the next line), on" cannot be stressed (it is coninuing a thought) The thoughts that arise in me: the thoughts = iamb, that arise = anapest, in me = iamb. O, well for the fisherman"s boy: o, well = iamb, for the ish- = anapest, erman"s boy = anapest, a trimeter (because it has three feet and 8 syllables) That he shouts with his sister at play: 3 anapests. O, well for the sailor lad: o, well = iamb, anapest, iamb.
