Slow boat to china: refers to how passed generations got to china and it took a very long time. They either took a boat or an overland train which was extremely expensive. Space time convergence if you look back into history towards the 1500s, the only way to travel was either by horse or by boat. The steam trains: opened up travel and made the world seem smaller because people could travel the world. North america, sail was replaced with steam boats. For us, it is massively smaller than the world of our parents and grandparents. The world is more instantaneous because it is more accessible to us through social media and flights to everywhere in the world.
