Document Summary

Tourism does not fit easily into characterization of a business because the final product is the experience, and this is dependent on the consumer. The consumer creates the experience and this has a large effect on how tourism works as a business. The potential for tourism as a business does not guarantee a successful output. The effect relies on ownership this implies control of scale, extent, impact and who gets the revenue: ownership and control reflect on the host community and their capacity to provide this as an entrepreneurial activity. Tourism is a way to generate employment, address income inequality, bring new people in, etc. Tourism is not equally distributed (natural factors and cultural heritage and history) This doesn"t work, the experience of tourism is personal the consumer defines the experience and the consumer alone. We can be marketed and persuaded but it is a consumers market. Our ability to differentiate our experience determine how our tourism experience is.
