Document Summary

In historical terms, 19c ends with wwi (20c is the short twentieth century ) Way of life, technologies, etc change dramatically after wwi - before that, early 1900s had been the same as the 1800s. Germany and austria were blamed, which had implications which led to ww2: nationalism, alsace-lorraine, german ambition, wilhelm ii of germany, conflict in teh balkans, european treaty network, nationalism. At the time, nationalism was a positive aspect. Able to convince people of national goals (germany - a place in the sun ) and awakens national feelings in ethnic groups. People started to identify themselves more directly as part of their nation and focused more on their ancestry/background. The sick man of europe (weakening over time) Downfall is inevitable - other empires were trying to lay claim over the pieces of the empire that were breaking away from ottoman control. Pieces that were breaking off were demanding their own independence.
