Reasons for the growth of the nazi party. Hitler and nazism to 1933: many germans wrongly blamed the republican government formed in november. 1918 for the loss of the war, and the harsh terms of the treaty of versailles. Hitler attacked it mercilessly on these and other grounds. The republican government was forced to sign the treaty of versailles and this made the people very angry at them. The fact that the republic was supported politically by parties that had generally been excluded from power before 1914, the socialists and the. Catholic centre party, was another reason for conservative germans" alienation. It had to do with the way that the war was financed and not with the republican party. Many germans had a hard time dealing with the fact that they were now under republican rule. They originally thought that the republic would help them: later they believed it was the allies way of keeping.
