Far eastern commission (australia, canada, china, france, india, netherland new zealand, etc) Supposed to be occupied by all the allies. However, actually occupied by the us. (they think they contributed the most) To insure that japan will not again go against the ally countries. To establish a government which will respect the rights of other countries. Initial goals of the occupation (demilitarize japan + democratize japan) Japanese in other countries were asked to go back to japan. Almost 6 million expatriates return japan by 1947, 1947: average family spends 70% of its income for food. Average caloric intake: 1200 calories (1/2 of what was considered sufficient) 1947: infant mortality: 77 deaths per 1000 births. War trials considered only japanese acts, not acts committed by allies. About 10 times as many japanese executed as germans on conventional war crime charges. However, japanese more or less accepted the tribunal"s verdict. Not in military uniform but look like an ordinary civilian.
