Document Summary

Karl marx was dismissed as a theorist. Overwhelming prediction that capitalism was going to crumble. Without karl mar(cid:454)"s (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:272)er(cid:374)s o(cid:374) (cid:272)apitalis(cid:373), (cid:272)apitalis(cid:373) (cid:373)a(cid:455) ha(cid:448)e (cid:271)ee(cid:374) (cid:374)o (cid:373)ore. Capitalism emerges at the same time as the state. Capitalism was seen to be only a theory. Adam smith was always very optimistic: had no understanding of the marketplace at all, charming because of the optimism in his theory. The state is oppressive and abuses its power and by giving the people the power the market will balance itself. The less power the state has the less tyranny there will be in society. By the 19th century you can see the spread of democracy. Age of revolution and age of emancipation. Capitalism was very appealing because the majority of people did not have access to political power and had nothing else to believe in given the tyranny and peasant classes holding the majority of people.
