Capitalism depends upon growth profits, markets, etc . According to kline, problem is having environmental policy to limit capitalism (can"t co- exist) Can have economic protection or environmental protection but can"t have both. Labour unions are under assault and become target of gov"ts. Over last 20-30 years, gov"ts began process of undermining legitimacy of unionized workforce. State tried to balance books by limiting power of unions. 1990s spread to private sector labour unions. Right to work legislation designed to weaken unions. Passing bill that say unions preventing people from working. Unions operate as closed shop that ensures everyone who benefits must pay into it. Easy to target those who make a lot of money workers identify more with their boss than with their co-workers. Individuals always see themselves on the way up to management. Not permanently part of the class they"re working in. To accept unions, must accept that will be working there forever.
