Beyond fish and furs but still mercantilist economies 1760 to 1840s. Lining, scoring and hewing (shaving the sides, cutting into squares etc. ) Emerges about 1790s and becomes the most important mercantilist economy for british north america. Easier to harvest in the winter because snow makes the timber easier to move. You stayed in camps, and then you go (cid:498)felling(cid:499). Takes skill to not have it fall back on yourself. Collapse of this was because ship builders didn"t adapt and build metal ships. Greatly increases in the 1850s then decreases in the 1900s. They built ships one by one on demand. Then people discovered they could build more ships in a shipyard. Not only had to adjust to new rulers but also new economies. British allow people to keep their land and language and some religion. Quebec city had big mostly destroyed and british had to come in and fix that.
