Young plan referendum: short answer: december 1929, alfred hugenberg/german nationalists oppose the young plan, hitler campaigns against the young plan along side the nationalists, campaigning alongside a respected party lends legitimacy to hitler/nazis. Establishing law and order: 1 february, reichstag dissolved, article 48 invoked, 4 february, emergence decree, limits freedom of press and assembly, 22 february, sa and ss made auxiliary police. Reichstag fire: 27 february 1933: 28 february, decree for the protection of people and state/reichstag fire decree, suspends freedom of press and right to assemble, arrests of communists. Just because they are communists: eliminating the most powerful political opposition, using the fire as an excuse, las foundation for police state.
