History of sexuality 2181a: eugenics and reproduction survival of the fittest. A rising eugenics movement in the 1880s all undesirable traits were inheritable; the idea was to stop this process from continuing. Physical health, mentally fit, middle class, racially fit white, religiously fit protestant/christian, nationally fit british stock: meant to die off if they are weak, people that were mental defectives (social darwinism) To make sure that the next generation of people would be more fit than their parents (canada and america both thought this) If these traits aren"t weeded out, it would result in an unfit nation. Anything that used science was seen as having more credibility amongst social reformers. Outnumbered by the influx of foreigners, their unfitness would drag down the rest of society. Their ugly children would bring them down, and they would become a financial burden on society (financial leeches) A woman could be healthier and have a better quality of life.
