Document Summary

Grown in the past 30 yrs d/t feminist, human rights organization, travel, & internet. People are more aware of the sexual oppression/problems in other areas of the world: hiv/aids. Hiv/aids: female circumcision, rape in context of war. Early 80s = sexual revolution had lost its steam (no one was discussing it anymore: official end to it = hiv/aids crisis. Highlighted the fact that promiscuous or even monogamous sex & iv drug use can be deadly. Views of sex from the 70s changed: sex was taken more seriously & people weren"t as free/promiscuous: people were scared to sleep around, scared of getting sick/aids, & overall very panicked. Sleeping w 1 person involved sleeping with all the people that they"ve been w too: really influential. Aids combined w moral judgements = how/who they got it from. Little education/medical tx/compassion for aids pts until mid-90s: were all delayed b/c of the moral judgements of people who had aids.
