Small isolated community with struggle for resources it demands everyone cooperate and we recognize that people are not uniformly good to each other: accept gender hierarchy women were weaker than men. Salem was on the edge of the north american frontier and puritans believed that somewhere back in the midst of time, north america was under satan and native americans were workers for. Sees itself as a community under threat, hanging on by its fingernails because of a delicate balancing act.
