Space invaders, martian attacks and alien abductions: mars attacks, the panic broadcast, la guerra de los mundos, mass delusion. North american survey states that 1% of americans believe they have been abducted by aliens. Most people, however, don"t lay in fear of aliens or invasions not the top 100 of phobias. Alien abductions are sometimes seen as crazy when compared to diseases and nancial ruins. 100 years, late 19th century the idea of aliens were created. 1870s- astronomers discovered that water was on mars created a lot of public interest. Showed that there was humanity on this planet. Percival lowell, (1895) wrote books about what life would be like on mars. His argument was that mars was a dying inhabited planet- and the inhabitants had built irrigation canals to the citizens of mars- which created a controversy. Scientists thought ht was crazy but there was a lot of general public who found it interested.
