Factory owners: people that work in offices, the middle class really wanted to distinguish themselves from the working class. So they started a new ideology called: the ideology of separate spheres. For middle class white women to be seen as passionless was not looked as negative. Cult of true womanhood: cult here just meant ideology, code of conduct (women had to be all these 4 things), domestic - same thing as the ideology of separate spheres (ideology of separate spheres) She had to stay at home and take care of the house. Had to take care of all things at home: pious - means religious. If you are not married you were supposed to be a virgin. No sex recreationally: submissiveness (passionless, women are not supposed to be flirtatious, speak their minds.
