Five characteristics typically associated with addictive behaviours: Compulsion or craving needs more and more to achieve the same high. Many behaviours are addictive, but most people who engage in them do not develop problems. If a person becomes dependent and tolerance develops, the behaviour is likely to become a central focus in the person"s life. Individuals with increased trouble dealing with stress may be more susceptible to addiction. Some people may also have a genetic predisposition to addiction. Concepts: brain issue; psychological or physiological; vulnerable groups; dopamine receptors. Dr. volkow is an expert on drug addictions. Very little addiction after the age of 30; it usually begins between ages of 18 25. The right medication with the right therapy can be a treatment for addiction.
