In 2015 - there were 438 000 deaths from malaria. First found in 1976 in congo by ebola river. Deadliest - west africa (24 outbreaks before that one) Human to human transmission via bodily uids. 2-21 day incubation: symptoms will appear within 2-21 days. Very contagious and up to 90% mortality: was brought down to 25% thru icu care. Level 4 pathogen = extremely contagious and fatal: i. e. sweaty palms can transmit the disease, not airborne. Zoonotic = travels from animals to humans. December 2013: forest area in guinea: 2 year old boy came into contact with an infected bat, problem with theory: no infected animal found in that area. March 2014: who recognizes outbreak and mobilizes experts and lab support, isolation unit set-up w/ doctors w/o borders. May 19: guinea"s ministry of health says everything is under control. June 2014: rst cases appear in sierra leone. Aug 8: who declares he ebola outbreak a public health event of international.
