Met jim, became close friends and were going to medical school for social reasons. Cuts to health care and education were needed in poor countries in order to get loans to keep going from the world bank (western countries) Tom white gave money to build the rst clinic. As soon as clinic opened, people from all over came to get treated. Every diseases you could think of, people came with it. Met people with tb almost every couple of hours: lung detonated, patients can"t breath, su ocating, gasping for air. 1988, 3 people under 50 die of tb: one of them was a friend, left orphans. No one is supposed to die of tb if you have proper care. Developed comliment system: accompagneuter someone in the neighbourhood who is there for you and checks on you everyday. Decided this could be bigger than just one clinic, it could be a movement.
