Legislation means that only select groups of processionals can prescribe medicines, and other professionals, a pharmacist, has to dispense them. Although the pharmaceutical industry is considered not a social determinant of health, it nevertheless has an important impact on the health status of canadians. Cost of prescription medications are not covered by provincial and territorial publicly funded health insurance plans.
