An adjustment is an attempt to cope with a situation. Strain is the wear and tear caused by an adjustment. Stress is an opportunity for personal growth and satisfaction. Eustress: is positive stress resulting from events such as marriage and starting a career. Distress is negative stress resulting from financial problems or illness. Psychoneuroimmunology (pni): interaction between mind, body and immune system. Slight drop in homeostasis occurs as the mind and body temporarily lose balance. Replenish them, and the body will return to homeostatic state. Resistance phase: begins immediately after alarm phase. Exhaustion phase: physiological and psychological energy is depleted. Chronic stress response results which is burnout or serious illness. Pressure: meeting a higher standard of performance. Other forms psychosocial stress: problems adapting, frustrations, discrimination. Environmental stress: events occurring in the physical environment.
