Ultrasounds now are often used for pregnancy but before they use to be also used for things like detecting problems with the heart, eyes, thyroid gland, tumors, and many other things. Sonography was first used for medical diagnosis in terms of brain tumors. Medical sonographers produce and record images of the body, using ultrasound equipment so they can help physicians make a diagnosis and monitor conditions. Medical sonographers fall into three major categories in ontario: general, cardiac and. Responsibilities: use ultrasound equipment to produce images of the body, ensure the images are in good quality and make adjustments to equipment when necessary, prepare examination reports for physicians. Skills: be able to perform diagnostic ultrasound tests, detail oriented, communication, compassion and interpersonal skills. Education: have to graduate from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program. There are 6 places that offer the program in ontario: have to complete the canadian clinical skills assessment and pass the certification examinations from sonography canada.
