Document Summary
Lecture 14 implementation of health promotion programs (cont. ) Similar to taking on hp goals, those who work to organize communities work under set of assumptions: communities can develop the capacity to deal with own problems. Living in a neighbourhood w/ no community centre. Community members identify that they need a community centre. Members can start organizing the community to work towards this goal. Draws from expertise: people want to change & can change. The difficulty in making a change has nothing to do with how possible it is. Just because things are done the same way, doesn"t mean it has to be done that way: people should play active roles in major changes taking place in their communities. This allows them to feel ownership and empowerment, while they have insight that people outside of the community do not have or know about: self-imposed changes work better than other-imposed changes (consider buy-in factor)
