Document Summary

Lecture 10 the heart ( the engine of the body ) The heart works on its own, and can beat independently than the rest of the body. It can respond to what it is happening in the periphery, it can grow, and eventually it cannot compensate anymore. The heart is a muscle that is located in the center of the chest. There is no symmetry in the heart: the apex (the point of the heart) points down into the left, we do not have symmetry here. When looking at the placement, it is quite anterior in the thoracic cavity. The heart is contained within a sac, called pericardial sac: peri = around, this sac surrounds the heart. It is held in place: the heart is constantly, but it is held within this sac in the front centre of the thoracic cavity. Classic diagram of the responsibilities of the heart.
