Document Summary

The roles bones play in the body structural support, keep us upright, allows us to walk and move. We generally attribute movement to muscles, we think they move themselves, but actually, without bones, there would be no movement. Bones also protect organs and regions of the body. Certain bones contain red bone marrow where we form new blood cells. Hemopoietic tissue makes up bone marrow, and is the source of the blood cells. If they don"t contain red bone marrow, then they contain yellow bone marrow, which is fat and energy storage. It acts as a buffer in the body. The availability of calcium phosphate in the bones can work as a buffer when there is changes in ph in the blood. It is important to keep blood at a homeostatic stage (so normal ph) so that it can do what it can do. A red blood cell has an optimum ph where it can do its function.
