Testing and screening gen disease. Gene therapy and genetic enhancement. 3 main types of diseases- to treat, screen or test for. - eg tay sachs. Monogenic: the result of a mutation in a single gene. Polygenic: the result of mutation in multiple genes: more than one. Some cancers correlated w mutation across many genes. Multifactorial: the result of a combination of genetic and environmental factors: put you at risk for other diseases. Some genes put you at risk for colon. But many factors account if you develop it. Autosomal dominant disorders: caused by a mutation in one copy of a gene. Autosomal recessive disorders: caused by a mutation in two copies of a gene. Sex- linked disorders: are traceable to either the x or the y chromosomes. What"s best way to screen/test/eliminate. Consequential reason- disease is bad and we should do what we can.
