Week 8 wednesday march 20th 2019 long term care. Diversity among caregivers: gender, generation, culture, caregiving context care receiver, other family members, support services. Ontario"s family caregivers: 60 % females and 40 % males, 30% living in the same household, 50% living less than an hour by car, 20% living more than an hour by car. Care needs over time: iadl: groceries, phone calls etc, vigilance: diseases (no rest, adl: active daily living. Role/identity changes along the caregiving career: challenges to spousal role, development of caregiving role. Joys of caregiving: greater appreciation for care receiver, personal satisfaction, sense of accomplishment, self-approval, appreciation, others, care-recipient. Long term care(ltc: continuum of care, in-home care institutionalized care, medical and non-medical support. Institutional facility: a group residential setting that provides individuals with medical and/or psychiatric care, nursing homes (long-term care home, medical institutions that provide room, meals, skilled care, medical services, and protective supervision.
