Chapter xii: mandatory reporting and the duty to warn. Not a criminal offence to fail to report past/future crimes except for acts of treason. People aren"t required to identify themselves, answer police questions, explain their conduct or co-operate with the police. Hcp may choose to report crimes to the police provided the info isn"t in confidence. Lying to police or investigators may constitute a criminal offence. Part 2: provincial reporting obligations: highway traffic act. Must report to registrar of motor vehicles any pt 16 or older who has a condition that would make it dangerous to drive. A doctor must warn the pt about danger in driving and report it. Other hcp who learn pt is unfit to drive are bound by confidentiality. Pending amendments will require hcp to report a defined list of conditions/impairments and permit them to report pt who have this condition: health protection and promotion act.
