Legal strategy tobacco companies are rich, they can drain the resources of people who are suing them. If it takes years to go to trial, in the meantime the two parties are going to court over more minor issues, still racking up legal fees. Companies can keep trying for motions to delay plaintiff runs out of money and has to drop.
