Document Summary

A long time ago, there was a lot of hype around classical conditioning . Want to elicit a desired behaviour with a certain stimulus. Pavlov"s dog food was paired with a bell, causing the dog to salivate to the sound of the bell even when food wasn"t presented. After the initial works from conditioning ( pavlov"s dog ), we moved to watson"s work (little - - albert experiment made a baby afraid of white rats). Here, we moved from animal model (pavlov"s dog) to human model (warson). Concepts of punishment & reinforcement came from skinner"s work on operant conditioning. But, operant conditioning is still not enough/practical for behaviour change nowadays. Bandura believes learning happens by observation or direct instruction . Prior to bandura"s work, learning was not thought to have much of an effect. Skinner"s theories focused on cognitive processes bc he assumed that behaviour was totally a function of the internal (within the brain).
