Kinesiology 2230A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 32: Vo2 Max, Creatine Kinase, Glycolysis
Document Summary
If you"re looking at running: your leg muscles are lifting about 3x the weight of your body. This will cause a change in cross-sectional area. Cross sectional size plateaued at about 2 months. Mitochondrial content: training adaptation will be similar to detraining. You can reduce the frequency, and still maintain vo2 max. Intensity of the workout is going to have the biggest change in terms of performance declining over time. Atp-pcr (2-10s) and anaerobic glycolysis (20s- 90s)- lactate production: we tend to think o high lactate as a bad thing, but important thing is that the amount of lactate that you produce reflects your anaerobic glycolytic capacity. Having a high anaerobic glycolytic capacity, you can do work for longer. Weights effective in overloading the muscle- increasing strength (contractile tension) (3-8 repetitions) Atp-pcr system supplies energy required for max. efforts. Strength is limited by number of cross bridges that muslce can generate.
