Kinesiology 4585 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Popliteus Muscle, Knee Pain, Palpation
Document Summary
Knee assessment: observation looking at musculature, scars, fluid/swelling (intra-articular, extra articular) Looking to see if there is fluid in the knee and if it is intra or extra-articular. If fluid moves, it is inside the capsule. Wipe down the outside of the knee then wipe the inside of the knee. Alternate one side to the other multiple times. Note: can also test for temperature as well: arom, prom, rrom mainly flexion and extension. Push down on their leg and don"t let them move it. ** can also check adductors and abductors during this as these muscles cross the knee: palpation can be done either before or after special tests. Clinically they usually palpate first, do special tests, then go back and palpate it again. Gives you an idea of where the pain is and can rule out some other special tests.
