Kinesiology 3480 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Artificial Neural Network, Neuropathology, Neuropsychological Test
Document Summary
Concussion occurs from impulse of force translated to the head. This causes shear-related damage to the brain"s neuro and glial networks. Glial is the insulation that binds all the neurons together. Statistic that puts into how many hours a player plays and how many players. A higher value represents a higher frequency of concussion in that given sport. The value is small for football in comparison to rugby. Better tackling technique in rugby does not mean there is a lower risk of concussion. Increased incidence in concussion in horse riding because there is a sudden deceleration of the head. Any activity where there is a sudden deceleration of the head causes risk of concussion. Simple concussion is typically not associated with a loss of consciousness and can return to play without many problems. (not really a real definition to sport physicians)
