Provide information about the tension (force) in a contracting muscle. Put individuals on platform that could translate forwards or backwards (participants did not know which way it would go, or when it would happen) Planning a movement entirely in advance of executing the movement. Pressing a large button, one can move very fast as accuracy demands are low (short movement time) threading a needle, one must move slow as the accuracy demands are high (long movement time) Wanted to study how we control goal directed movements. Now we can use opto-electrical things to measure movements. When a high-accuracy task is being performed, the current-control phase increases in time, and thus the movement occurs more slowly (smaller object) The fitts tapping task examined speed/accuracy trade-off in simple aiming movements. Subjects tap back and forth (reciprocal tapping task) between two targets as quickly and accurately as possible (if they made 5 errors, they had to redo task)
