Kinesiology 1080A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 28: Proprioception, Motor Skill, Executive Functions
Document Summary
High degree of cognitive activity this stage is attentionally demanding. This person is demanding all attention to this task they are trying to learn. Movements kind of look bad they are choppy and not synchronized. Something that is absolutely clear about someone in this stage is that these people make a lot of errors and the errors are large in magnitude. I. e. learning to hit a golf ball and you just fully miss the golf ball- huge error. Because this is a cognitive stage, these performers have no idea why they are making these errors. They lack the ability of how to identify and correct the errors being made. This is why a coach is very important during early motor skill acquisition so they can tell them what they are doing wrong. Attentional demands for movement production decrease: good thing -allows them to better detect errors and their cause which can be corrected. Begin to develop appropriate error correction strategies.
