Kinesiology 1080A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Postcentral Gyrus, Parietal Lobe, David H. Hubel
Document Summary
Occipital, parietal, temporal and frontal lobes connected by the corpus collosum. Phrenology: different localized parts of the brain specialized for different things such as courage, hope, love of the truth etc. This idea was no longer believed as time went on but went full circle and we know believe that different parts correspond to different things but the phrenology things were not correct. Occipital lobe: contains primary (v1) and secondary visual areas. V1 is about the size of a credit card and it initially processes all visual information. This allows us to see in very high resolution when looking directly at something. Extrastriate visual regions are v2, v3 etc. that are dedicated to specific things such as detecting motion or shape/contour etc. Legions to the primary cortex cause someone to not be able to see for example someone standing right infront of them, not due to any issues with their eyes, but because of the damage to v1.
