University. The team supported him, the question is will the NFL? He didn’t end up
making the team because you had other coaches making grey area comments that he
could be a problem in the locker room, how it would affect the dynamic of the team.
2. Popular media representations
Is there a disparity in coverage between males and females?
YES. Research has been done in colleges; findings are in female sport, the
adjectives tend to use words on artistic qualities (ex. Gracefulness) where as in
men, the talked about skill and knowledge for same sport.
For women: the focus is on artic qualities
For men: focus is on movements, skills, and strategic knowledge
Research has shown a tendency for announcers to minimize female skills and knowledge
of the game what can we do going forward to remove this bias?
Make sure that there’s more female commentators in sport however female
commentators adapt and mold themselves to a typical male mannerisms.
Training commentators on what’s appropriate to say – because this may be
unintentional.
