Can include transcripts, field notes, observation logs, copies of documents, etc. Data are related to concepts, opinions, values, behaviors, etc. in a social context. Keep master and work with separate copy. Typically uses an emergent framework to group the data and look for relationships and meanings inductive. Process is conducted during & after data collection. How am i going to make sense of this data? (process for analysis) In-depth examination to provide detailed descriptions and understandings. Eg. describing context, participants, classifying results into manageable units for analysis. Big picture based on repetition of data: codes. Labels sections (eg. lines) of text to be able to group and compare similar/related pieces of information: concept mapping. Displays relationships to organize & structure knowledge: themes.
