Kinesiology 2032A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Construct Validity, Preference Test, Vo2 Max
Document Summary
Learning objectives: differentiate between 4 levels of measurement, describe common features of validity and reliability, compare and contrast if an outcome is valid and/or reliable. Assigning values to outcomes, following a set of rules. Outcomes = the thing we want to measure. Eg. hair colour, gender, sex, height, test score, vo2 max, physical activity. Characteristic of an outcome that fits into one, and only one, class or category. Eg. coming in 1st, 2nd, 3rd in a race. Better to be #1 than #2, but we don"t know by how much. How much higher a performance is compared to another. Complete absence of the outcome being measured. Temperature: at 0 degrees, it doesn"t mean there is no temp it just means it"s at 0. Absence in weight means there is an absence of weight . Increased detail and information with a more precise scale. More precise contains the features of the levels below it.
