Kinesiology 2032A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Randomized Controlled Trial, Systematic Review, Accelerometer
Document Summary
Critical appraisal: the ability to analyze and evaluate information, question its validity in a logical, evidence based manner, and formulate inferences on the basis of the evidence. If we are given information, we can understand it, can decide how true you think the information is and can make inferences based on that information. The expert opinion is the least valuable because it hasn"t been peer-reviewed and opinions are subject to bias. The highest forms of evidence in a single randomized control trial and systematic review compile all information in the eld and draw conclusions from that. Case study: facilitated physical activity as a treatment for depressed adults. The study design consisted of 4 groups= usual care, 4 month follow up, 8 month follow up and 1 year follow up for both the control and the intervention group. None of the participants or practitioners were blinded (they all knew what group they were going into)
