Variable: in any event, situation, behaviour or individual characteristic that varies. 1) must have 2 or more levels/values. Types of variables: situational: describe characteristics of a situation or environment (e. g. spatial density of a classroom, temperature in the gym, response: responses or behaviours of individuals (e. g. rt, time to complete a 10k) =dependent variable (most of the time: participant/subject: individual di erences characteristics (e. g. gender, intelligence, height) Beyonce"s shoe size isn"t a variable because it doesn"t vary. But shoe size in general is a variable. Vo2 max of children 6-10 years old > response variable. This one can account for a few things. Relationships between variables: positive linear: as one variable increases, so does the other (and decrease) In general, the taller someone is, the more they weigh: negative linear: as one variable increases, the other decreases (and visa versa)
