Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Skeletal Muscle, Occipitalis Muscle, Temporal Muscle
Document Summary
Muscles and nerve of the head, neck and trunk. Muscle: name the different types of musclular tissue, explain how a muscle produces movement, explain the nomenclature of the skeletal muscle. How muscle produces movement: a muscle must span at least one joint to produce movement, muscle belly is contractive, attachment points on bones via tendons, also skin (mm. Origin vs. insertion: origin is usually proximal, usually remains fixed during contraction. Insertion is usually distal: usually moves towards origin. Types of contraction: concentric, muscle shortens, eccentric, muscle lengthens, cause muscle bulk because you can generate more force, this can also cause muscle damage (could be good or bad) Functions of muscles: prime mover/agonist, main mm. Synergist: assists agonist in producing movement, antagonist, opposes action of agonist, relaxation during contraction. Location: pectoralis, intercostal, brachialis, attachments sternocleidomastoid, number of heads, biceps brachii, quadriceps femoris. Function: extensor digitorum, erector spinae, direction of fibres, transverse abdominis, external oblique.
