Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Erector Spinae Muscles, Posterior Ramus Of Spinal Nerve, Dorsal Root Of Spinal Nerve
Document Summary
These muscles keep the spin erect (keeps you upright, maintain posture) There are 3 muscles in the erector spinae . Common function: posture of cerebral column and balance. By attaching to the ribs and vertebral column, they shape the spine (ie. curvature: iliocostalis. Insertion: back of the ribs (costals: longissimus: more medial than iliocostalis. Small diamond in the small of the back in body builders. Insertion: transverse processes (travels up: spinalis: closest erector spinae muscle to the spine/most medial. Insertion: all the vertebra as it moves up. The ventral horns: anterior motor innervation (stimulates a muscle to contract) The dorsal horns: posterior sensory innervation (ie. sense of touch) Sensory bres enter into the spinal cord via the dorsal root. Ramus: where the dorsal and ventral roots come together where information comes in and out. Ventral rami: very thick, beginning of spinal nerves goes to head, neck, legs, arms (most motor information)
