Flattened alveoli would take up half a tennis court 90 square meters. Lungs and heart are suspended in a pleural sack (i. e. wrapped in saran wrap: pleural membrane around lungs visceral pleura, another pleural membrane exists on rib side parietal pleura. B/w these two membranes is a vacuum space known as the pleural space. Lungs are extremely elastic always trying to shrink but can"t due to vacuum.
