Kinesiology 2236A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Sprain, Palpation, Rotator Cuff Tear
Document Summary
Passive stabilizers are the capsules and ligaments (cannot tighten and have a set length) The angle of pull is offset so the muscles can pull the humerus into the glenohumeral joint. Shoulder is made for mobility so when we gain mobility, we are losing stability because the capsule and ligaments don"t do too well of a job stabilizing. Tears for younger athletes, usually a sudden onset, the rope (+)ve sttt has been cut or torn. They don"t usually tear all the way through. Limitation in rom or limitation in strength. Positive selective tissue tension, see weakness, pain where the muscle is, stretch and contraction. (no pain on resistance=not a muscle injury) Occasional high force tear takes longer to rehabilitate. Tear of cuff with emphasis on supraspinatus. Raise arms to 180degrees then lower to 90degrees. Someone with a rotator cuff tear will not be able to maintain movement at 90degrees.
