Kinesiology 2236A/B Lecture 10: Soft Tissue Assessment 101
Document Summary
Field assessment is a concise assessment used to get a general idea of how bad it is and how we are going to remove them. Sideline assessment is a more in-depth, routine protocol. Subjective: most important aspect of the evaluation. Specific attention should be paid on how they feel at the end range of motion - pain prior usually signifies inflammation or a red flag: used to detect lesions in inert tissues, tells us end feel: normal. Soft tissue approximation - elbow / knee flexion. Like squeezing two balloons together: bony or bone to bone - elbow extension, distinct abrupt endpoint. Like putting 2 wooded surfaces together: capsular - hip rotation, abrupt firm endpoint with little give. Like stretching a leather belt: end feel: abnormal. Springy block - internal issue of the joint: rebound at end point, bouncy like compressing a spring. Involuntary contraction that prevents motion secondary to pain (guarding)
