Document Summary

Acute (traumatic injury): occur suddenly and have clearly defined cause or onset. Occurs when the tissue loading is sufficient to cause sudden irreversible deformation of the tissue. At some point in time, all injuries are acute, there was usually one thing that sparked it. Overuse (chronic injury): occurs slowly over time, secondary to the repetitive dynamics of the sport or movement in question. Due to repeated overloading which individually is not enough to cause irreversible deformation but over time accumulates and exceeds the tissue threshold. Usually in aerobic sports that require lengthy training or in technical sports where a movement is repeated multiple times. May or may not have an inciting event. Extrinsic/external: originating outside the anatomical limits of a part (i. e. training, fitt) Intrinsic/internal: belonging to or lying within a given part (i. e. anatomy, physiology) Contractile tissue with central function to generate power/movement across a joint. Well vascularized so it receives good nutrients and o2.
